Entryway Pendant Lights

Entryway pendant lights are the first fixture a guest sees, and often the only one in a hall with no furniture to soften it. That gives them more visual weight than a pendant anywhere else, so scale the shade to the room rather than to a console. This page gathers every OroDwell pendant whose specifications name the entryway.

How to choose entryway pendant lights

Start with the ceiling and the floor plan, not the shade. A single story foyer wants a compact fixture with a short drop, while a two story foyer can carry a tall tiered piece that reads from the landing as well as from the door. Measure the height from floor to ceiling before anything else.

Then size the diameter to the hall. A useful starting point is to add the width and the length of the entry in feet and treat that sum in inches as the widest the fixture should be, so a six by eight foot hall lands near fourteen inches across. Finish follows the door hardware more often than the wall color, and a warm metal against a painted door tends to settle the whole entry.

Which pendant for an entry hall

Shade type Best in What it does Price here
Clear and stained glass A hall seen from the door A lit shade that reads from across the room $139 to $710
Amber and tinted glass A warm entry, a landing A tinted glow that softens a plain hallway $107 to $710
Bubble and crystal A double height entry, a stairwell Many small points spread down a tall space $260 to $1,940
Stone and marble An entry with stone or plaster finishes A solid form that still reads when switched off $200 to $660
Wood and bamboo An entry with warm floors A warm tone and a filtered pattern around it $160 to $670
Metal cages and multi head A narrow hall, a low entry ceiling A compact body that clears the walking path $96 to $710

What to check before fitting

E27 socket
The large screw fitting for a standard bulb, used by most fixtures here. In an entry the warmth of the bulb sets the first impression of the house, so it is worth choosing rather than keeping whatever came in the box.
Cord pendant
A fixture hung on a flexible cable rather than rods. It is the most common suspension in this range. The cable can be shortened at installation, which matters in a hall where people walk underneath the fixture every day.
Clearance
In a hall the lowest point of the fixture has to stay well above head height, whatever the shade size. Measure from the floor before choosing a drop, and remember that a door swinging open is the thing most often forgotten.
Bulb included
Most fixtures on this page arrive with a lamp, which each product page states. Where several sockets are involved, check whether the full set is supplied, since a hall fixture with one dim lamp among many shows at once.
IP20
The dry indoor rating carried by fixtures here. It confirms the body is closed against fingers and offers nothing against water. Right for an entry inside the house, not enough for a covered porch open to blowing rain.

Floor clearance and drop for entryway pendant lights

People walk directly underneath, so clearance governs everything else. Keep the bottom of the shade at least seven feet above the floor with a standard eight foot ceiling. Over a hall table or a bench where nobody stands, you can come down to about six and a half feet. In a two story foyer, hang the lowest point roughly level with the second floor window line so the fixture is not stranded up near the plaster.

What size pendant suits a small entry?

Add the entry width and length in feet, then read that number as inches. An eight by ten foot hall lands near eighteen inches wide. In a narrow entry under five feet across, a single slim fixture with a short drop keeps the walkway clear on both sides.

Can one pendant light a whole foyer?

In a small entry, yes. Past about eight by eight feet the pool of light falls away at the corners, so add a pair of sconces or recessed cans. A shaded fixture also throws less into the room than an open one, which matters in a hall with dark paint.

How do you install a pendant light in an entry hall?

On the existing ceiling box, with the drop set from the floor rather than from the ceiling: the bottom of the shade clears at least 7 feet above the walking surface, and in a two story foyer it sits roughly level with the upper floor so it reads from both levels. Where the entry has a door that swings under the fixture, the swing path is the measurement that matters, not the room center. A box rated for the fixture weight is needed on any cluster shape. Installation is not included and is not quoted here.

How much does an entryway pendant light cost on this page?

80 fixtures, from $96 up to $1,310. Half the page is under $259 and nine tenths under $660. Multi drop clusters built for a tall foyer sit at the top of that range.

What color temperature suits an entry hall?

3000K is the value stated across this range. An entry is seen from outside at night and from inside on the way through, so a clean warm white reads as welcoming without looking yellow against a front door glass. A cooler lamp makes an entry feel like a lobby. Where the entry opens directly onto a living room, matching the two is worth more than optimizing either one.
