A fixture with no shade, where the bulb is the thing you are actually choosing

Take the shade off a ceiling light and what is left has to be worth looking at. Here that is a shallow brushed brass disc and a short cylinder, nothing else, so the eye goes straight to the bulb. That makes the bulb the real decision. A large clear globe with a visible filament turns the fixture into a period piece. A frosted globe of the same size makes it quiet and modern. A compact LED disappears almost entirely and leaves only the brass. Because the socket is a standard E26 or E27, that decision can be changed in a minute at any point in the fixture's life, which is not true of anything with an integrated light source.

Does it come with a shade?

No. The fixture is a canopy, a socket housing and the bulb, with nothing over the light source. That is the design rather than an omission, and it means the bulb you choose decides what the fixture looks like lit and unlit. A clear globe reads as a sphere of filament, a frosted one as a soft ball of light.

Which sizes are offered?

Two: 7.1 in across by 8.7 in high and 4.7 in across by 7.1 in high, or 18 by 22 cm and 12 by 18 cm. The larger suits a standard ceiling height, the smaller works in a compact space or under a low ceiling. The maker also makes custom sizes to order in its own atelier.

What bulb base does it use?

E26 or E27, the standard medium screw fittings in North America and Europe. Both LED and Edison filament bulbs fit, and the maker supplies none, so the first bulb is chosen with the order. Because the bulb is fully visible, its shape matters as much as its output here.

Where does a fixture this small work?

In a corridor, an entry, a landing, a closet or a utility room, and in a bedroom where a reading lamp carries the real work. At 12 to 18 cm across it is too small to light a living room on its own, which is why several in a line along a hallway is the usual way to use it.

Is it rated for a bathroom?

No. The maker rates it IP20 and describes it as suitable for indoor spaces where it cannot be exposed to moisture, which rules out a bathroom or a shower room. An exposed bulb makes that more important, not less, since nothing shields the lamp from steam reaching the ceiling.

How is it controlled?

From an ordinary wall switch wired to the supply, which is not included with the fixture. Dimming depends on the bulb: fit a dimmable LED or a filament bulb and pair it with a compatible wall dimmer. The fixture itself carries no switch and no driver.

Polished brass is a mirror, and a mirror on a ceiling picks up every lamp, window and reflection in the room. On a fixture made of nothing but a disc and a cylinder that would be noise. The brushed surface here scatters light instead of bouncing it, so the canopy reads as a warm matte circle against the plaster and stays quiet whether the light is on or off. It also marks far less obviously than a polished finish under the handling that installation involves. Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
