There are two ways to put travertine on a ceiling. One is to face a metal housing with a thin slice of stone, which is light, cheap and reads as cladding up close. The other is to carve the fixture from the block, which is what this one does, and the weight tells you so: 2.94 kg for a cube only 15 cm on a side. Carving it that way makes the perforations possible, because each small opening passes right through a stone wall and shows its own depth when the light is on. From a corridor the two drilled faces read as a soft dotted band, and when the fixture is switched off the cube is simply a piece of quarried stone on the ceiling.

What do the holes in the stone do?

They let light out through the sides of the cube rather than only through the base. Seen from along a corridor, the two perforated faces read as a soft dotted pattern against the stone instead of as a dark block, which is what gives a fixture this small some presence on a ceiling.

How large is it?

One size: 5.9 in square by 5.7 in high, or 15 by 15 by 14.5 cm, weighing 2.94 kg. That is a small fixture, deliberately so. The maker points it at corridors, entryways and closets, where a wide shade would be out of scale and a bare fitting would look unfinished.

What socket does it use?

G9, the small two pin base rather than a screw fitting. G9 capsule bulbs are sold by specialist lighting retailers and online, and they will not fit an E26 or E27 holder. Check availability in your market before ordering, as G9 is more common in Europe than in North America.

What is the panel at the bottom?

A glass diffuser. It closes the underside of the cube and spreads the light from the G9 capsule so that the source is not visible as a point from directly below. Without it a bulb this small would read as a bright spot in an otherwise dark stone box.

How heavy is it for a ceiling box?

It weighs 2.94 kg, which is substantial for a fixture this size because the body is solid stone. Mount it to a secure ceiling structure with hardware suitable for that weight, follow local electrical requirements, and have a licensed electrician make the connection.

How should it be cleaned?

Wipe the travertine and the glass gently with a soft cloth that is dry, or no more than barely damp. Do not soak the stone and avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners, both of which etch travertine. Disconnect the power before cleaning or servicing the fixture.

A hallway is a difficult ceiling. A wide shade crowds it, a recessed downlight disappears into the plaster, and a plain surface fitting looks like something the builder left behind. This cube takes a different route: 15 cm square and 14.5 cm deep, small enough to run several along a corridor without the ceiling feeling busy, and distinct enough that one on its own still registers. The glass panel at the base spreads the G9 capsule so nobody walking under it sees a point source, while the perforated faces carry the light sideways along the wall. How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?
