Sixty Four Centimeters Wide, So It Fills the Wall Sideways Not Downward

Nearly every wall light in this category is taller than it is wide, because a sconce is normally a vertical object on a vertical strip of wall. This one inverts that. The wings span 64 cm tip to tip against a height of 60 cm, so the piece runs across the wall rather than down it, and that changes where it belongs. Above a bed it fills the width of the headboard. Above a sofa it does the job a picture would. On a wide plaster wall it becomes the horizontal element the room was missing. The corollary is that it will not work where a sconce usually goes: the narrow strip beside a door, a corner, or the space between two windows.

How wide is it on the wall?

64 cm tip to tip, and 60 cm tall. That is wider than most wall lights and it is the reason to choose it: the piece fills a horizontal run above a bed or a sofa the way a picture would, rather than dropping down a narrow strip.

What does the piercing do?

It breaks the light. The wings are cut through across their surface, so some of the output passes between the cuts and lands on the wall behind as a pattern rather than as a flat wash. It is most visible on a plain plaster wall in a dark room.

Is there a bulb to buy?

The LED is integrated at a warm 3000K and draws about 7W, so nothing is ordered separately and nothing is swapped later. That low draw is also why the piece works as an accent rather than as a room light.

Can I mount a pair?

Yes, and two on one living room wall works well. Give each one clear space, since at 64 cm across a pair needs a long run of wall to avoid reading as crowded.

Which finish should I choose?

The pale wood keeps the carving and the piercing most legible and lifts a dark wall. The walnut is deeper and reads as a heavier form against pale plaster, with more contrast where the lit diffuser sits between the wings.

How do I clean it?

Let it cool. Dust the carved wings with a soft dry brush, working along the cuts, since the pierced sections collect dust and a cloth will catch on them. Wipe the diffuser with a barely damp cloth and dry it.

The cuts across the surface of each wing are not decoration on the front face, they go through. That means some of the output from the diffuser passes between them and reaches the wall behind as a broken pattern rather than as an even wash, and the piece ends up drawing with its own light. How much you see of it depends on the wall: on smooth pale plaster in a dark room the effect is clear and the pattern reads several feet either side, while on a textured or dark surface it mostly disappears and you are left with the silhouette. Worth knowing before choosing where it goes, because the wall behind the fitting is doing half the work.
