Walnut Table Lamp on a Solid Wood Sphere
A solid wood sphere sits on the surface, a slim stem rises straight out of it, and a small fabric drum caps the top. That is the whole lamp, and the proportion is the point: nearly all of the mass sits at the very bottom, so the silhouette reads as a mallet head with a handle rather than as a base with a shade. Three finishes are offered on the same turning, a pale natural wood, a mid walnut tone and black, and the grain stays legible on all three, most visibly on the black where the raking light picks out the rings. The shade is deliberately small for the height, which keeps the light tight and close rather than spread wide, so this works as a mood lamp beside a bed or on a sideboard rather than as a reading light. The control is a rotary dimmer, running smoothly from low up to full with no fixed steps. The socket is a standard E26 or E27 and no bulb is supplied.
