Upright on a Stairwell, Flat Over a Bed, and the Same Block Does Both Jobs

The block is symmetrical, so nothing about the fitting decides which way up it goes. That turns one product into two very different lights. Fixed flat it reads as a bar: a wide warm wash under a picture, over a headboard, along a hallway. Turned upright it becomes a tall line, which is the shape a stairwell actually wants, because a horizontal fitting cuts across the diagonal of the steps while a vertical one runs with the wall. Choose the orientation before the wiring goes in, since the supply point moves with it.

Can it be mounted upright?

Flat it behaves as a bar over a bed or a picture. Upright it becomes a tall line of light beside a door or along a stairwell, where a horizontal fitting would fight the diagonal of the steps. Decide the orientation before fixing, since the wiring point moves with it.

Is the travertine solid or a veneer?

Solid. The block is stone through its depth, with the light slot cut into one edge and the LED set inside, which is why the short piece weighs 2.2 kg and the long one 2.6 kg. That weight is worth planning for: fix into a stud or use anchors rated well above it.

Will my piece look like the photographs?

In shape and tone, yes. In detail, no two blocks are the same. Travertine forms with open pores and fine banding, and both vary across a quarry and within a single slab. Treat the photography as the family rather than as a portrait of the piece you will receive.

Are the side screws visible?

Yes. We would rather you know that now than notice it on arrival. They read as small metal points on the stone edge, not on the face.

How is it switched?

It is hardwired and takes a common wall switch, and a pull chain switch also works. Neither switch is supplied. On a stairwell that usually means wiring it into the existing two way switching rather than giving it a control of its own.

Can it go in a bathroom?

The rating is IP20, so there is no protection against water at all: keep it clear of the shower and of direct spray. Stone is also porous, so standing moisture is not something to invite.

Natural Stone Means the Piece You Receive Will Not Match the Photograph Exactly

Travertine is laid down in water over a long time and it carries the record of that: open pores, fine banding, shifts of tone from cream to a warmer sand. Those marks are not a finish applied at the end, they are the material, and they change from block to block and even along one slab. Lit from a slot along its edge, the stone glows at the openings and stays dense elsewhere, which is the reason to choose it over a painted metal bar in the first place. What that means in practice is simple. Expect the shape and the tone family of the photographs, and expect the detail to be yours alone.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
