Three parts do the work. The plate is walnut, cut square and screwed flat to the wall, and it carries the whole fitting including the wiring. From it a brass arm runs out on two joints, which is what lets the shade travel: out over the arm of a chair to read by, or folded back near the wall when the room is not in use. At the end sits the shade holder, and hanging from it a 50 cm brass pull chain. That chain is the point of this design. A sconce wired to a switch by the door means crossing the room in the dark; a chain at the fitting does not. The lamp still answers a wall switch when the circuit has one, so you get both.

Do I need a wall switch for it?

The 50 cm pull chain switches the lamp at the fitting, which is useful on a circuit that is always live or in a room where the switch is by the door. It also works on a common wall switch if the circuit has one.

How far does the arm reach?

The brass arm folds at two joints, so it swings out over a chair or a bedside and folds back near flat against the walnut plate. Reach depends on how far you open each joint rather than on a fixed figure.

Which bulb should I use?

An E26 or E27 lamp, not included. A warm 2700K LED or a filament lamp suits the white glaze; a cool lamp turns the ceramic gray. Keep to the wattage marked on the fitting.

What are the five models?

Five shade sizes on the same brass and walnut body, from Dia 13 x H 18 cm up to Dia 23 x H 17 cm. Only the shade changes between them, the arm and the wall plate stay the same.

Is the ceramic shade fragile?

It is fired glazed ceramic, heavier and more solid than glass, but it will chip if it takes a knock on the rim. Support the shade with one hand when changing a lamp.

How do I clean it?

Dust the glaze with a dry cloth and wipe it with a barely damp one if it marks. Wipe the walnut plate along the grain and dry it at once. Let the lamp cool first.

The shade is white glazed ceramic rather than glass, which changes the light: ceramic does not let the filament show through, so what leaves the shade is an even warm wash with the brightest throw going down onto whatever sits below. Five sizes are offered on the same brass and walnut body. The smallest is 13 cm across and 18 cm tall, which suits a narrow bedside wall; the tallest runs to 24 cm; the widest is 23 cm across and only 17 cm tall, which throws a broader pool and reads heavier on the wall.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
