One Wood and Brass Body, Two White Glass Shades That Point in Opposite Directions

The wall end of both models is identical: a round backplate in dark stained wood, a brass arm rising from it, and a small turned wood ball where the arm meets the plate. What differs is the shade and, more usefully, where it points. Model A holds a ribbed melon shaped globe upright in a brass cradle, standing 29 cm out and 29 cm tall; because the glass is held open end up, light lifts onto the wall and ceiling and fills a corner. Model B carries a smooth rounded shade on a short gooseneck that turns it down toward the floor, standing 22 cm tall; that one drops light onto a book, a nightstand or a shelf. Both shades are white opal glass, so no filament shows through, and both accept a standard E26 or E27 lamp.

Which model lights a book better?

Model B. Its rounded shade sits on a gooseneck and faces down, so the light lands on the page. Model A holds its ribbed globe upright in a cradle, which lifts light onto the wall and the ceiling instead.

How is it switched?

A pull chain hangs from the fitting, which is what makes it usable beside a bed. It is hardwired, so a wall switch on the circuit works too where one exists.

Is the glass see through?

It is white opal glass, so the bulb never appears as a bright filament. Model A shows vertical ribbing across that opal surface, Model B is smooth.

What bulb does it take?

A standard E26 or E27, LED or filament, not included. A warm lamp keeps the glass reading cream against the dark wood; a cool one makes it look stark white.

How far does it come off the wall?

Model A stands 29 cm out from the plate and Model B 28 cm, so both are deeper than a flush fitting. Measure beside a bed before choosing, since a sconce at pillow height needs that clearance.

Does the wood match the glass exactly on every unit?

The backplate and the small ball finial are stained wood, so the depth of color varies slightly between pieces. The glass is consistent; the wood is not, which is normal for a stained solid material.

A Pull Chain at the Fitting Is What Makes a Hardwired Sconce Work Beside a Bed

A hardwired sconce usually depends on whatever switch the room already has, which beside a bed often means the one by the door. The pull chain hanging from this fitting removes that problem: the light can be turned off from the pillow whether or not a wall switch exists on the circuit, and where one does exist, the two work together. Model A stands 29 cm out from the wall and Model B 28 cm, which is fine above a nightstand but tight in a narrow hallway or beside a door frame. Hold a tape measure at the intended height before you settle on a model.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?
