Close view of one clear glass globe and its filament bulb

A glass globe cluster instead of a fan light kit, which is why it reads as a light first

Most ceiling fans treat the light as an afterthought: a frosted dish bolted under the motor, chosen to disappear. This one hangs a cluster of clear glass globes below the housing, each on its own short arm, with filament bulbs visible inside them. From a sofa that reads as a small chandelier with blades above it rather than as a fan with a lamp attached. The blades are flat black metal with no gloss, so they stay quiet against the ceiling and let the glass do the work. Three or five globes depending on the model, and both versions put the light where the eye already is.

Questions about this product

Everything you need to know about this product.

What ceiling can it be mounted on?

A cement concrete ceiling, or a solid wood beam at least 6 cm wide able to carry more than 20 kg. The maker lists drywall over joist, gypsum board, wood panels, prefabricated ceilings and sloped ceilings as not compatible. Check what is above the plaster before ordering, because this is not a fan that can be made to fit.

Does it work with my wall switch?

No. The fan uses a wireless receiver, and the maker states plainly that standard household wall switches are not compatible with it. A handheld remote is included in the box. If you want wall control as well, a matching wireless wall switch has to be bought separately and fitted before installation.

Which blade span suits my room?

The maker gives 42 in for a bedroom of about 10 by 10 ft, 48 in for a living room of about 12 by 12 ft, and 52 in for a great room of 15 by 15 ft or more. All three stand 21.7 in high from the ceiling, so the choice is floor area rather than ceiling height.

What is the difference between Model A and Model B?

The number of glass lights. Model A carries a cluster of five globes, Model B carries three. Both use the same blades, the same motor and the same drop. Model A puts out more light and has more presence under the blades, Model B keeps the fixture visually lighter.

Why a DC motor?

Because it runs quieter and draws less power than the AC motors used in most fans. The maker specifies three speeds and describes the fan as wobble free at all of them. In a bedroom that difference is the whole point, since a fan that hums at low speed tends to get switched off and left off.

Which bulbs do the globes take?

Edison style filament bulbs, which are visible through the clear glass and give the fixture its warm vintage look. The globes are open at the bottom and sit on short arms around the motor housing. Confirm the base type with us before ordering if you want a specific bulb ready on the day of installation.

A DC motor with three speeds, which is what decides whether the fan actually gets used

The reason so many ceiling fans sit unused is noise. An AC motor hums, and at low speed in a quiet bedroom that hum is louder than the air movement is worth. A DC motor does the same job with less electrical noise and less vibration, and this one is specified as wobble free across all three of its speeds. The fan ships with a handheld remote. One thing to plan for before buying: the receiver is wireless, so an ordinary wall switch will not control it, and a matching wireless wall switch has to be ordered separately if you want a switch on the wall as well as the remote.
