Traditional Table Lamp on a Turned Ash Body
A classical turned form in a modern size. The body is solid ash hardwood, hand turned to a full bellied urn and hand stained to a deep walnut tone with the grain still reading through the finish. It is worth being plain about the wood: this is ash with a walnut stain, not black walnut, which is a different and more costly species. Three shades mount on the same body and cost the same: a warm plaid fabric with vertical brown trim, a hand woven rattan that casts a dappled glow, and a woven fabric bound at the edge with leather. Two switches are fitted, a brass pull chain on the body and an inline button on the 2 m braided cord, and either one turns the light on or off. The bulb ships installed: one 9W E26 LED at 2700K with a CRI of 97, roughly a 60W incandescent, which renders skin, fabric and art far closer to daylight than an ordinary 80 CRI bulb. Total height 44 cm, shade 30 cm across.
