A single drum lights a table. Two drums stacked on one stem do something else: the upper one sits wide and shallow and pushes light up onto the ceiling, the lower one is narrower and drops a tighter pool onto whatever is underneath, and the gap between them leaves a bright line running right around the fixture. That is the whole design, and it is why the piece reads as a stepped volume rather than as a cylinder. The three sizes are not variations on one idea. At 45 cm across and 27 cm deep the fixture is modest enough for a small room or a corner. At 58 cm by 35 cm it becomes the center light. What does the second tier change?

It splits the light in two directions. The upper drum is wide and shallow and pushes a wash up onto the ceiling, while the narrower drum below drops a tighter pool onto the table. The gap between the two leaves a bright line around the fixture, so the piece is lit from its own middle rather than only from underneath.

Which of the three sizes should I choose?

Measure the surface underneath. Over a round table a fixture about half to two thirds the width of the table looks right: the 45 cm over a small table, the 70 cm over a wide one. With no table underneath, size to the ceiling instead, because the 70 cm is 42 cm deep and drops noticeably into the room.

How high should it hang?

Over a dining table the bottom of the shade usually sits around 75 to 85 cm above the surface, which keeps the light on the table and the sight line across it open. In a hallway or anywhere people walk underneath, take it well above head height at the tallest point of the route.

Is it bright enough to light a whole room?

Often, yes, and that is the point of the two tiers. Because the upper drum throws a wash onto the ceiling, the room brightens from above as well as below, so one fixture can do the work that a center light and a corner lamp would otherwise share. In a large room, treat it as the main light rather than the only one.

How long does a made to order piece take?

How do I clean it?
