A pair lit either side of a timber gateway at the end of a paved path

Veining in the Panel Means the Lit Face Has Depth Instead of Dead Flatness

Put an LED behind a plain white diffuser and you get an even rectangle, which is clean and completely inert. The panel here is cast with veins running through it, and once the light is on those veins read as darker and lighter passages across the face, the way a backlit slab of stone does. The effect changes with distance. From the path it is a warm block with movement in it. From two feet away you can follow individual veins across the surface. Neither state is uniform, and that is the point: a lit face with structure holds the eye where a flat one is simply bright. It is the oldest trick in stone lighting, applied to a material that does not crack in a hard winter.

Questions about this product

Everything you need to know about this product.

What is the panel made of?

Resin, cast with veining through the body rather than printed on the surface. What it gives you is the look of a cut slab that survives frost.

What is the difference between Model A and Model B?

Proportion only. Model A is slightly narrower at the short size and runs 19.7, 27.6 and 37.4 inches tall. Model B is 6.3 inches wide throughout and runs 23.6, 31.5 and 39.4 inches. The panel and the output are the same.

Does it need an electrician?

It is a hardwired fixture on AC 110-240V, so the supply has to be brought to the wall and terminated in a weatherproof box behind the back plate. On a new position that is an electrician's job rather than a weekend one.

Which height for a tall elevation?

The 37.4 or 39.4 inch. On a two story face or beside a double door, anything under 24 inches reads as an afterthought. The rule of thumb is about a quarter of the door height for each of a flanking pair.

Is a switch supplied?

It works with a common push switch, which is not included and is normally put on the same circuit as the rest of the entry lighting. There is no switch on the fixture itself.

How does it handle driving rain?

The body is rated IP65, sealed against dust and proof against water jets from every side, so an unprotected wall is within what it takes. Do not immerse it and keep the foot clear of standing water.

Six Sizes Because a Wall Light Is Sized by the Wall Itself, Not by Taste

Two body widths and three heights each gives six options, which sounds like too many until you try to light a real elevation. A 19.7 inch fixture beside a standard door is correct and the same fixture on a two story stone face disappears. A 39.4 inch body on a narrow entry pier is absurd, and on a wide gateway it is exactly right. The conventional figure is a quarter of the door height for each of a flanking pair and about a third for a single fixture, which on an 80 inch door lands near 20 inches and 26 inches. Measure the opening first. The range exists so the answer to that measurement is already in it.
