The shade is carved from natural alabaster, so veining and color differ from piece to piece. The photographs show one example rather than a standard to expect.

Which finish should I choose?

Brass warms the stone and suits wood and cream. Blackened brass is the darkest and gives the most contrast. Nickel is the quietest and sits easily against gray or white walls.

Do I need an electrician?

The bracket takes two screws and the braided cord plugs into a standard US outlet. That is what makes it a fitting you can put up in a rental and take with you afterwards.
