In an Entrance Hall It Works Because You Walk Under It and Then Past It

An entrance hall gives you two views of a ceiling fitting that a living room never does. You come in underneath it, and then from the room beyond you see it side on through a doorway. A flat round fitting gives you the same disc both times. This one changes completely: from below it is a closed loop, from the side it is a line that rises and falls. That is the argument for spending this much on a single piece of stone rather than on three smaller fittings, and it is also why the height it hangs at matters more here than it would over a table.

Is it really one continuous piece?

The form reads as one continuous tube with no joint showing along its length. That is the whole point of the design, and it is why a piece this size costs what it does in a material that is cut rather than molded into shape.

How much light does it give?

130W and about 14 300 lm, which is enough to light an entrance hall or a meeting room on its own. Most sculptural fittings this size give you the object and leave the lighting to something else. This one does both.

Can it be dimmed?

The integrated LED on this model is not dimmable as built. At 14 300 lm that is worth planning around, so put it on its own switch and keep a lower second source in the room for the evening.

What does it weigh?

About 31 lbs. That is light for its size because the tube is hollow, but the load is spread across four cables rather than one point, so the fixing has to be right. A licensed electrician and a joist, not a plastic ceiling box.

Which room suits it?

A room where you see it from the side and from below. An entrance hall with height, a stairwell landing, a meeting room, a study with a double height wall. On a flat eight foot ceiling the shape flattens out and you lose most of it.

Is the veining the same as in the photographs?

Every piece is cut from natural stone, so the pattern is specific to the one you receive. The color stays in the same cream and white range, but the lines running through it will not match any photograph exactly.

Fourteen Thousand Lumens From a Sculpture, Which Is Not the Usual Trade

Sculptural fittings normally ask you to give something up. You get the object and you accept that the room needs lamps to be usable at night. At 130W and 14 300 lm this one does not ask for that. It will light a study, a meeting room or a hall on its own, which means the budget goes into one piece instead of into a piece plus the four recessed fittings that would otherwise be doing the work. The catch is that it is not dimmable, so the level is fixed. Put it on its own switch and keep a floor lamp in the room for the hours when full output is more than you want.

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?
