A Fitting With No Front and No Back Changes How You Place It in a Room

Most chandeliers have a face. You hang them so the good side points at the door. A sputnik does not work that way, because the rods leave the hub on every axis and the silhouette is the same from every chair in the room. That makes it easier to place over a round table or in the middle of an open plan, and harder to place against a wall, where half the geometry is lost. It also means the fitting reads as volume rather than as outline, so it needs air around it on all sides rather than a clean background behind it.

Can the bulbs be changed?

The light is an integrated LED built into the arms, so there is no socket and no lamp to replace. When the LED reaches the end of its life the fitting is replaced, not relamped. That is the trade for the lit-rod look.

How far below the ceiling does it hang?

Write to us and we will send you the drop in writing. The rod is not adjustable, so on a sputnik that figure decides everything and it is worth having before you choose.

Is it wide enough to need a big room?

It is 33.5 inches across and 38.3 inches deep, so it wants clear air on every side. Over a dining table it works from about 8 feet of ceiling. In a corridor or a low room it will be in the way.

Can it go outside?

Indoor dry locations only. This model carries no IP rating, so there is nothing to show it is sealed against damp, and we sell it for dry rooms and nothing else.

Does it dim?

As supplied it holds one level. A dimmable build is offered to order. Because the LED is integrated, adding a wall dimmer afterwards is not a safe route, so tell us early if you want dimming.

Gold or chrome, which reads quieter?

Chrome. The rods disappear into a pale ceiling when unlit and only the light lines show. Gold holds its shape even switched off, which is what you want if the fitting is meant to be seen as an object.

The Rods Themselves Are Lit, Which Is Not How a Sputnik Fitting Usually Works

A classic sputnik ends each arm in a bulb, so what you see from below is a constellation of bright points on thin stalks. Here the light runs along the rod instead. The effect from a seated position is a set of glowing lines crossing in space, with no single point bright enough to make you look away. It is a softer thing to sit under than a bulb-tipped sputnik, and it also means the arms carry a diffuser rather than a socket, so nothing about the fitting can be relamped later.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is free on every order, with no minimum purchase. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay for delivery.

How long before my order ships?

How long does delivery take?

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
