Open Sides Turn the Wall Itself Into a Part of the Lit Composition Here

Nearly every exterior wall fixture is a closed box with one lit face, and everything it produces goes forward. Open the sides and the arithmetic changes. Light escapes left and right, lands on the render within a foot of the frame, and spreads as a soft halo that is brightest at the fixture and fades outward. From an angle you see the ribbed tube itself rather than a bright panel. From straight on you read a lit frame sitting inside a lit patch of wall. It is a more generous effect than a sealed housing can produce, and it is the reason to give this one a stretch of plain render rather than tucking it into a corner.

Why is the frame open at the sides?

So the light gets out sideways. A closed housing sends everything forward; with the sides open the ribbed tube is visible from the left and the right and the wall itself picks up a wash either side of the frame.

What do the ribs on the tube do?

They break the source into vertical lines. A smooth tube shows one bright band; the ribbing refracts the output along each groove, so the tube reads as a set of fine lit lines from a few feet away.

Is the set of two cheaper than two singles?

It is priced as a pair rather than as two separate fixtures, which is worth knowing if you are flanking a door.

What does the top ledge do?

Two things. It carries the solar cell, tilted to the sky rather than flat to the wall, and it hoods the tube so the output is pushed down and out instead of escaping upward.

Is there a switch to install?

It runs on a handheld remote and a dusk sensor, and nothing is wired to the wall, so the only work is fixing the back plate. That is what makes it usable on a garden wall.

How does it cope with rain?

It is rated IP65, sealed against dust and proof against water jets from any direction. Do not immerse it. Wipe the top ledge when it looks dusty, because a dirty cell charges slowly.

A Solar Ledge That Also Works as a Rain Hood Over the Lit Ribbed Glass Tube

The wide cap across the top of this frame is doing two separate jobs and it would be worth having for either one alone. First, it carries the photovoltaic cell out at an angle from the wall, which is the only way a vertical mounting ever collects a useful charge. Second, it sits over the tube like the brim of a hat, so nothing is thrown upward into the sky and the output is pushed down onto the path and out onto the wall instead. A fixture that needed a separate hood and a separate panel would be twice as deep and half as clean. One ledge, two problems, no extra hardware.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
