Faux Rattan Was the Right Call, and the Reason Shows Up in the Second Season

A real rattan lantern looks wonderful on the day it arrives. Then it spends a summer in the rain: the fibers take up water, swell, dry out unevenly, darken in patches and eventually soften at the base where water sits. By the second season it is a different object. The braid here is a synthetic over a metal frame, and it does none of that. It holds its color under sun, it sheds rain, and the weave keeps its tension so the pattern it throws on the deck stays as crisp as it was. Is the rattan real?

It is an imitation rattan over a metal frame, and that is the point. Real rattan outdoors takes up water, darkens unevenly and softens at the base; a braided synthetic holds its color and its shape through a season of rain.

What is the difference between the two wood tones?

Color only. One braid reads as pale natural wood, the other as a darker stained tone. Both use the same frame, the same sizes and the same output, so the choice is about what the lantern will stand against.

Which size should I start with?

The 15.7 inch is the useful middle: big enough to read on a deck, small enough to carry easily. The 9.8 inch is a table piece and the 23.6 inch is a floor lantern for an open terrace or an entrance.

Wired or solar?

Solar where nothing is run and the lantern moves around. Wired where it will live in one place near an existing supply and you want the same output in December that you had in June. The braid is identical either way.

Does the braid trap dirt?

A little, in the gaps, the way any woven surface does. A soft brush and a rinse clears it. It is worth doing once a season, because dust in the weave dulls the pattern the lantern throws on the ground.

Can it be left outside?

Yes. IP65 here means a sealed body and no concern about water arriving under pressure. Do not immerse it. Let the braid dry after heavy rain rather than storing it away wet.

A Shape That Swells and Closes Again, So the Glow Reads as a Solid Form

The body is narrow at the base, widest around its middle and drawn back in under the lid. That curve is what separates it from a straight sided basket, and it matters most once the light is on. A cylinder lit from within gives an even band of brightness with no shape to it. A swelling body gives a gradient: brightest across the widest part, falling away toward the base and the top, so the eye reads a three dimensional object rather than a lit tube. From across a lawn that is the difference between seeing a lantern and seeing a light.

How long does delivery take?

How do I track my order?

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
