Close Enough Together to Read as Solid, Open Enough to Show the Lamp Inside It

The spacing of the strands is the whole design decision on this one. Set them too far apart and the column becomes a cage with a bulb in it, which is a look but not a quiet one. Set them touching and you have a solid drum that could be any material. Here the gap is small enough that from ten feet in daylight the body reads as a continuous rattan cylinder, and open enough that at night the lamp inside shows through as a run of fine vertical lines with the strands dark against them. The object changes character between afternoon and evening without anything moving.

Is the column real rattan?

Yes on this model: rattan strands run vertically over a metal frame. Keep it under cover through a long wet winter rather than leaving it standing out.

Can it be carried?

Yes. There is a small handle on the white cap, which is why the shape works as an evening lamp: it charges where the sun is and moves to the table, the steps or the deck edge when it is wanted.

What is inside the cap?

The solar cell and an 18650 lithium ion cell, which is the standard rechargeable format and easy to replace years from now. Write to us with the size you want and we will send you the runtime in writing for that one.

Which size for a terrace table?

The 13.8 inch, which sits on a table without blocking the view across it. The 23.6 and 39.4 inch sizes are floor pieces and read better standing on decking or grass beside the seating.

Is there anything to install?

Nothing. There is no cable and no fixing, so the column stands wherever it is set down. That is the trade for a solar body: no wiring at all, and a charge that depends on the week of weather.

Can it be left out in the rain?

The rating is IP65, so dust and water jets from any direction are covered. Do not immerse it. Let the strands dry after heavy rain instead of covering the column while it is still wet.

A Handle on the Cap, Which Turns a Garden Fixture Into an Evening Lamp

A solar light with no handle has to live where it charges, which is usually the sunniest and least useful corner of a terrace. Put a handle on the cap and the arithmetic changes: the column spends the day where the sun is and the evening where people are, on the table, at the foot of the steps or beside a chair. The smallest size is light enough to carry in one hand and the two larger ones move comfortably with two. It also means the lamp can come inside for a winter, which is worth doing with natural rattan whatever the IP rating says.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
