One Soft Shape Set on One Sharp One, Which Is the Whole Idea Behind This Piece

The two halves of this fixture are arguing with each other and that is the point. Above, a dome: one continuous curve, matte white, no edges anywhere on it, the softest shape available to a molder. Below, the exact opposite: flat plates folded up into triangular points that rise around the dome like a setting holding a stone, all straight lines and hard vertices in a dark finish. Neither would be interesting alone. A dome on a plain plinth is a mushroom; the folded base by itself is a piece of hardware. Put one inside the other and each makes the other read more strongly, which is how most good sculpture works.

What do the points in the base do?

They hold the dome up and they shape the light. The gaps between them let the output escape sideways and downward, so the surface under the fixture carries a set of bright wedges instead of an even ring.

Which size is which height?

4.3 inches tall at 7.1 wide, 11.8 tall at 11 wide, and 8.7 tall at 14.9 wide, so the middle size is the tallest of the three. Read the height rather than assuming it follows the width.

Is the dome glass?

Acrylic. It carries a continuous curve in every direction, which is easy to mold and impossible to fold, and it does not shatter if the fixture is knocked off a low wall.

Where is the solar panel?

Let into the flat top of the dome, facing straight up. Keep the fixture out from under a dense canopy, because branches overhead are the usual reason a solar light never reaches a full charge.

Is there any wiring or fixing?

No cable at all. The base plate can be fixed down if the spot is windy, and otherwise it simply stands where it is set, which is what makes it usable on a wall top or a plinth.

Can it be left out in winter?

Yes, it is rated IP65 against dust and water jets from any side. Do not immerse it. Brush snow off the dome, because a covered panel does not charge at all rather than charging slowly.

Light Escapes Between the Cut Points and Lands on the Ground in Bright Wedges

Look at what the base does once the light is on. The dome glows evenly, as a dome will, but the useful output leaves underneath it and has to get past the folded points to reach the ground. Each gap between two points passes a wedge of light that widens as it travels, so the paving or the cap under the fixture carries a ring of bright triangles with dark gaps between them. Move around it and the pattern rotates with you. On a plain surface, a stone cap or a smooth terrace, that is the whole reason to choose this one over a plain glowing ball, because half of what it produces lands as pattern rather than as glow.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
