A Flattened Amber Glass Ring Floating Above a Turned Walnut Gourd Base

Most small lamps put a fabric cone on a stick. This one does something else. The base is a gourd turned from walnut, wide and rounded at the bottom and drawn in to a narrow neck, and what sits above it is not a shade at all but a flattened ring of amber glass with a brass finial at its center. The light comes from below and is caught inside the glass, so the lit part of the lamp reads as a floating amber band rather than a glowing cone, and the output falls downward onto the surface in a warm circle. Unlit it is a clear disc; lit it is a ring of honey. Two heights are offered on the same 22 cm width: 25 cm for a nightstand or a side table, 32 cm to lift the ring clear of whatever else is on a shelf.

Which size should I choose?

Both are 22 cm wide. The 25 cm version is a nightstand and side table height, low enough to sit under a wall frame. The 32 cm version lifts the amber ring clear of clutter and reads better on a shelf or a console. Neither will light a whole room.

What is the amber part made of?

Glass. It is a flattened ring rather than a shade over a bulb, so it catches the light from the source below and holds it as a floating amber band. That is why the lamp looks different switched on and off: unlit it is a clear glass disc, lit it is a warm ring.

Do I need to buy a bulb?

The LED is built into the lamp, so there is no socket and nothing to replace. It carries three color temperatures and the switch cycles through them, warm to neutral to white, one per press.

How do I change the light color?

By pressing the touch switch on the base again. Each press moves to the next setting rather than adjusting brightness, so the sequence runs warm, neutral, white and back around. There is no separate dimmer.

How is it powered?

Over the USB charging cable supplied, on AC 110 to 240V. That makes it easy to run from an outlet behind a nightstand or from a power bank if no socket is close.

An Integrated LED and a Touch Switch That Cycles Three Color Temperatures

There is no socket in this lamp and no bulb to buy. The LED is built in, which is what allows the glass above it to be a closed ring rather than a shade with an opening, and it carries three color temperatures instead of one. The touch switch on the walnut base cycles through them: press once for warm, again for neutral, again for white, then back around. It is a sequence rather than a dimmer, so the brightness stays constant and only the tone of the light changes. Power comes over the USB charging cable supplied, on AC 110 to 240V, which means the lamp runs from an ordinary outlet behind a nightstand or from a power bank when no socket is close. For care, the glass ring takes a soft dry or barely damp cloth, worked carefully around the brass finial at its center, and the walnut is wiped along the grain and dried at once. Solvents stay off both the wood and the brass.

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items.
