A Solid Wood Stem That Leans and Bends, Carrying the Shade Off to One Side

Most table lamps put their light directly above their own base. This one does not. The stem leaves the flat black oval foot at an angle, bends once, and carries the beige shade out to the side, which is the practical reason to own it as much as the visual one: the foot can sit at the back of a desk or a nightstand while the pool of light falls forward over a book or a notebook. The line it makes is closer to a branch growing away from a trunk than to a column, and since the stem is solid wood the grain and the exact angle of the bend differ from one lamp to the next. The shade above is a tapered cone in beige fabric finished with a stitched edge top and bottom. At 55 cm tall on a 12 cm footprint it stands high and takes almost no surface.

Why is the stem bent?

So the light lands beside the base rather than on top of it. The stem leans out of the foot, bends once and carries the shade off to one side, which means you can set the foot at the back of a desk or a nightstand and still have the pool fall over a book. A straight lamp of the same height puts the light directly above its own base.

How much surface does it take?

Very little. The oval foot measures about 12 cm across, roughly the footprint of a small plate, while the lamp stands 55 cm tall. That combination is the reason to choose it for a crowded desk or a narrow nightstand. Leave clearance on the side the stem leans toward.

Is it stable if the shade is off to one side?

The foot is a flat weighted oval, which is what counterbalances the lean. It is still a lamp with its mass held out to one side, so stand it on a level surface, keep the foot back from the edge, and do not hang anything from the shade.

Is a bulb included?

The holder takes a standard E26 or E27 screw base and accepts an LED or an Edison filament lamp. A warm tone suits the beige fabric and the natural wood. For reading, aim for around 600 lumens; the shade is small, so a very bright lamp will be noticeable.

How is it switched on?

Two ways. There is an inline switch on the 150 cm cord and a push button on the fitting itself, so it can be used either from the desk surface or at the lamp. Nothing needs installing: it plugs into an ordinary outlet and runs on AC 110 to 240V.

Will two lamps look the same?

Close, but not identical. The stem is solid wood, so the grain and the precise angle of the bend differ from one piece to the next. Buying a pair gives you two lamps that clearly belong together rather than two identical objects, which is the nature of the material.

Standing a Leaning Lamp Safely, Choosing a Bulb and Switching It Two Ways

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.
