A Black Wood Sphere That Is the Base, With No Stem and No Foot Below It

Take away the stem and the foot and what is left is this: a wood sphere resting directly on the table, a short neck rising out of the top of it, and a small linen drum above that. The absence is the design. Because nothing lifts the ball off the surface, the lamp sits low and reads as weight rather than as height, which is why a 37 cm object holds a console or a side table the way a taller, thinner lamp cannot. The underside of the sphere is flattened where it meets the table, so it stands on a small flat circle and does not rock. The black stain is taken deep enough that the grain flattens out at a distance and the sphere becomes a pure shape, leaving the pale linen drum as the only light colored element in the composition.

Does the sphere sit directly on the table?

Yes. There is no foot and no stem: the ball rests on the surface with a short neck above it carrying the shade, which is what gives the lamp its low, grounded look.

Will the sphere roll or wobble?

The underside is flattened where it meets the table, so the lamp stands on a small flat circle rather than on a curve.

Can you see the wood grain through the black?

Close up, yes, faintly. From across a room the stain is deep enough that the sphere reads as a solid black shape, which is the point: the silhouette carries the lamp rather than the material.

A Small Linen Drum Open at Both Ends, and Where This Lamp Earns Its Place

The shade is a beige linen drum only 22 cm across, small enough to stay in proportion with the sphere below it, and open at the top and the bottom. That openness splits the output: roughly half climbs to wash the wall and the ceiling above, half falls onto the surface below, and a soft band comes through the linen in between, which is the profile of a lamp that lifts a corner rather than one that lights a task. Where it earns its place is on surfaces that need weight rather than height: a hall console under a mirror, a side table beside a low sofa, a cabinet next to a chair. How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.
