Rice Paper Table Lamp on a Stacked Wood Base
Rice paper does something no fabric does: it holds the fibers visible in the sheet, so when the lamp is lit you see the texture of the material itself rather than a smooth glow. The shade here is a dome of it, gathered over a frame with the creases left in, which breaks the light into a faint irregular pattern and keeps the surface interesting even switched off. Under it the base is a column of wood bobbins, turned one above the other on a round disc foot in a walnut tone, and the contrast is the point: a heavy dark stack carrying a light pale dome. The lamp is 30 cm across and 56 cm tall, which puts the dome above the clutter on a console or a side table.
