What does a woven shade do to the light?

It breaks it up. Rattan is opaque where the strands cross and open between them, so instead of a smooth glow the lamp throws a fine pattern of light and shadow onto the wall and the ceiling.

Is the rattan natural or dyed?

Natural, so the color is the honey brown of the cane itself and it varies slightly from one shade to the next. It will warm a little over the years, as all natural cane does.
