Rattan Table Lamp on a Turned Ash Baluster Base
The hand woven rattan shade is what most people come for. Natural rattan is not a flat diffuser: the weave lets small points of light through between the canes, so the lamp throws a soft dappled pattern onto the wall behind it rather than an even wash, and the shade itself reads as texture rather than as a plain cone. Under it the body is solid ash, hand turned into a baluster, full belly, narrow neck, a disc at the waist, then stained to a walnut tone with the grain still visible through the finish. Ash is a North American hardwood, not walnut, and each turning comes from a different board, so the figure and the depth of the color change from one lamp to the next. Two other shades are offered on the same body: a plaid fabric with vertical brown trim and a woven fabric bound in leather. A 9W E26 LED at 2700K ships fitted.
