Colored Glass From This Period Was Meant to Change the Room, Not Just Decorate It

Modern shades mostly aim at neutral light and keep their color on the outside. A nineteen seventies orange dome does the opposite: the tint runs through the glass, so the whole room takes a warm cast once the lamp is on and the walls read amber. Does the orange glass change the light?

The tint runs through the glass, so everything under the fitting takes a warm amber cast and the wall behind it does too. In a north facing room that is the whole appeal; in a kitchen where you judge food by eye, plan a neutral source as well.

What bulb is supplied?

A halogen lamp on an E26 or E27 screw base comes with the fitting, so it works as soon as it is wired. Swapping it for an LED of the same base lowers the running cost and keeps the glass cooler to handle.

Why is the frame on the outside?

Holding the shade in a cradle rather than from a cap on top leaves the top of the glass unbroken, so the dome reads as one continuous shape. It is a detail lifted from the fittings of the nineteen seventies, and it is most of what gives this one its period.

How wide an area does it cover?

Roughly 54 to 110 square feet, which is a living room corner or a small dining area. The tinted glass absorbs some output, so treat it as atmosphere rather than as the working light in a room you read in.

Does chrome plating mark easily?

Fingerprints show on polished chrome the way they do on any mirror finish, and a dry cloth removes them. Avoid cleaners with grit, since plating is thin and wears through at the edges where the arm grips the glass.

Can the height be changed later?

The cable adjusts up to 47.2 inches and is set at installation, with enough slack left to move it afterwards. Over a table, hang it so the bottom of the glass sits around 32 inches above the surface.

A Cradle Frame Leaves the Top of the Dome Unbroken, Which Changes the Silhouette

Nearly every pendant grips its shade at the top, which puts a metal cap in the middle of the shape. Curving a chrome arm over the dome and clamping it at the sides leaves the glass whole from every angle, so the outline stays a clean curve. It is more work to build and it is the single detail that makes this fitting look like the decade it comes from.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.
