Pleated Table Lamp with a Knife Pleated Linen Shade
Knife pleating is the detail worth paying attention to. The cream linen is folded into sharp narrow flutes that fan out into a cone, and because each fold sits at an angle to the next, the light catches one face of every pleat and leaves the next in shadow, so the shade reads as a ribbed surface rather than a flat one. The pleats are folded by hand, which means small differences between flutes are part of the making. Under it sits a lathe turned column in a dark walnut tone: a rounded foot, a small bun, then a slim shaft, with a thin gold finished collar linking the wood to the shade. The proportion is compact, 38 cm across and 44 cm tall, sized for a nightstand, a console or a desk. The socket is E26 or E27 and no bulb is supplied. For dimming, a Triac dimmable LED on a Triac wall dimmer is the route.
