Silk Stretched Over Thin Ribs, Curved Into an Umbrella With a Scalloped Hem

The shade is built the way an umbrella is built. Silk is stretched over thin ribs and pulled down into a shallow dome, and the hem is then cut into soft scallops so the bottom edge breaks rather than closing in a straight circle. Two things follow from that. Lit from inside, the ribs show through the silk as fine seams running from the collar to the edge, which is a detail a thicker fabric like linen would hide; and the scalloped hem throws a soft scribble of shadow onto the wall behind instead of a clean band. The silk is also thinner than linen, so it transmits more of the output and the whole shade glows rather than only the lower opening. Underneath, a brass collar joins the shade to a turned cone of walnut, wide at the foot and tapering upward, and that wide foot is what keeps a 31 cm shade steady on a narrow bedside surface.

Is this lamp cordless or corded?

Corded. A 150 cm lead with a plug and an inline push button, which is the version shown in every photograph. If cordless is what you are after, tell us and we will point you at a rechargeable lamp instead.

What does the scalloped hem do?

It breaks the outline. Instead of finishing in a straight circle, the silk is cut into shallow curves, so the lit edge throws a soft scribble of shadow onto the wall behind and the shade reads as an umbrella rather than a dome.

Why silk rather than linen?

Silk is thinner and smoother, so it transmits more light and the thin ribs under it show through as fine seams when the lamp is on. Linen would soften that detail and read heavier on a shade this size.

What color temperature arrives?

Warm white 3000K as standard, which is the tone that suits a bedside. Neutral 4000K and cool 6000K are also built for this lamp, so write to us if you want one of those instead and we will set it up that way.

Will it fit a small nightstand?

It is 31 cm across and 38 cm tall, so allow about 35 cm of clear width. The turned cone is wide at the foot, which is what keeps a shade that broad stable on a narrow surface.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?
