This lamp is an argument between two textures. The base is a tapered walnut column with a deliberately open grain that has been wire brushed, which cuts back the soft part of each growth ring and leaves the hard part standing proud, so the surface looks coarse and handmade even though it wipes clean like any finished timber. The shade is its exact opposite: white fabric ribbed into pleats so narrow that from two steps away the whole thing reads as one soft, seamless surface, and only up close does it resolve into a run of fine vertical lines. Why does the wood look so rough?

The grain is open and has been wire brushed, so the softer parts of each ring are cut back and the harder ones stand proud. It reads as texture from across a room while staying smooth enough to wipe down.

Is the shade pleated or ribbed?

Ribbed into very narrow vertical pleats. They are tight enough that the shade reads as one soft surface from a few steps away and only resolves into lines when you are close to it.

Does it suit a nightstand?

Yes. At 48 cm tall with a 30 cm shade it is the standard bedside proportion, with the hem sitting near eye level when you are sitting up and the base taking no more room than a mug and a book.

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items.
