Shallow Enough for a Corridor, Round Enough Not to Look Like a Bulkhead

There is a narrow band of wall lighting that actually works in a passage: deep enough to be an object, shallow enough that nobody catches a shoulder on it. This one lands there at 5.5 cm. What keeps it from reading as a utility fitting is the section of the rim, which is turned to a rounded profile that curves back to the wall instead of meeting it at a hard edge. From the side there is no shadow line, just wood easing into plaster. From the front you get a solid ring of grain with a warm disc set inside it. On a stair wall, along a corridor, above a dresser in a room with no space to spare, that combination does the job a flush fitting does without looking like one.

How far does it stand off the wall?

5.5 cm. That is the whole argument for this shape: in a corridor, on a stair wall or beside a door, a fitting on an arm gets knocked and a flush one looks like a bulkhead. This sits between the two.

How is it different from the straight sided version?

The rim. This one is turned to a rounded section that curves back toward the wall, so the silhouette is soft from every angle. The straight sided model keeps a flat outer edge and a sharper shadow line. Same diameter, same depth, different character.

Is there a bulb?

The LED is integrated at a warm 3000K, which is how the fitting stays this shallow. Nothing to source and nothing to replace during normal use.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

We rate it IP20, indoor and dry locations. Beside a mirror in a well ventilated room is fine. Keep it out of a shower zone and away from splashing.

Walnut or light wood?

The walnut is dark and reads as a solid ring against a pale wall, with the lit disc floating inside it. The light wood keeps closer to plaster and disappears more when unlit, which suits a hallway where you want the glow and not the object.

One Piece of Turned Solid Wood, Which Is Why the Grain Runs All the Way Round

The ring is turned from solid wood rather than assembled from a facing on a metal carrier, and you can see it in the way the grain travels around the rim and changes character as it goes, tight on two sides and open on the other two. That also means no two rings are identical, and a walnut one will have its own run of dark and light through the section. The white acrylic diffuser sits recessed inside the ring, so the LED behind it is never in a direct line of sight and what reaches the room is a soft disc with a wood halo around it.
