Most beam fittings hang their lamps under the timber on cords, which looks good in a photograph and glares in real use, because the bulbs end up close to eye level for anyone sitting at the table. The lights are recessed into the underside of the beam, so the source is above your line of sight and what reaches you is the pool of light on the table rather than the lamp making it. Is there a bulb to change?

The LED is built into the beam, so there is no socket and nothing to screw in. That is what allows the lights to sit flush in the underside instead of hanging below it, and it is also why the light color is chosen when you order rather than later.

How do I choose the light color?

Warm 3000K suits a dining table and pairs with the dark lacquered wood. Neutral 4500K reads cleaner and works over a kitchen island where you are preparing food. Cool 6000K is the working light and is rarely the right call in a room where people eat.

Can it be dimmed?

It runs from an ordinary wall switch at one fixed level, with no dimmer in the fitting, so plan the room around that: over a dining table it usually means having a second controllable source nearby, a table lamp or a wall fitting, for the evening.

How low does it hang?

The chain sets the drop at installation. Over a dining table 30 to 36 inches above the tabletop is the usual target, and because the beam is only 3.9 inches deep you keep a clear line of sight across the table at that height.

How heavy is it?

About 33 lbs, which is heavy for a fitting of this size because the beam is solid wood rather than a hollow casing. It needs a ceiling joist or a properly rated anchor, and that is worth confirming with your electrician before the day.

Which room does it suit?

Above a long dining table, a kitchen island or a run of counter, where a linear shape matches what is underneath it. Over a round table it has nothing to follow, and in a square room it fights the geometry rather than settling into it.
