Resin Instead of Alabaster, Which Is Why It Can Live on an Exposed Wall

Backlit alabaster is one of the oldest effects in lighting and one of the worst materials to put outside. The stone is porous, it draws water into itself, and the first hard frost lifts flakes off the surface and opens hairline cracks that spread along the bedding planes. Within a couple of winters an alabaster panel on an exterior wall is finished. The imitation resin used here takes the same cloudy translucence and none of that vulnerability: it does not absorb water, it does not spall, and at IP65 the fixture around it is sealed anyway. You give up the fact of the stone. You keep the effect and the fixture.

Is the panel real stone?

It is an imitation alabaster resin, and we publish it as that. Genuine alabaster is porous and spalls after a frost, which is why nobody puts it on an exterior wall.

What is the difference between the two finishes?

Surface, not color. Frosted black is smooth and even. Textured charcoal gray has a fine matte grain that catches raking light, so the frame reads softer against stone and render.

Which size for a gate pier?

The 27.6 inch on a standard pier and the 39.4 inch on a tall one or a wide gateway. The largest is also slightly wider and deeper, at 7.9 by 5.5 inches, so it holds its own on a heavy stone face.

What do the cross bars do?

They end the panel. A tall lit rectangle with nothing at the top or bottom reads as a slot cut in the wall; two short bars across the face at each end give it a head and a foot and turn it into a lantern.

Does it need to be hardwired?

Yes, on AC 110-240V, with the supply terminated behind the back plate. There is no solar option on this model, so a new position needs a cable run to it and a weatherproof box.

Will the panel survive a hard winter?

The resin is the reason it will, where stone would not. The body is rated IP65 against dust and water jets. Do not immerse it, and wash the panel with water rather than a solvent.

Two Bars Across the Face at Each End, and the Slot Becomes a Real Lantern

Take the cross bars off this fixture and look at what is left: a tall lit rectangle flush in a thin frame, which reads as a slot cut into the wall rather than as a light fitting hung on it. That is a real and common failure in tall modern sconces. The bars fix it with almost nothing. Two short lengths of steel across the top of the panel and two more across the foot give the composition a head and a base, stop the eye running off the ends, and register the fixture as a made object with a top and a bottom. It is the same device a craftsman frame uses, reduced to four pieces of metal.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
