Which size for a standard ceiling?

The 87 inch version stands 87 inches tall, so it clears an eight foot ceiling with a few inches to spare. The 98 inch version wants a nine foot ceiling or more. Measure the height before the width on this one.

Is the gold lining visible when it is off?

Yes, from below and from the side. Unlit it reads as a warm band under a black or white rim. Lit, the gold is what gives the light its color, because every beam reflects off it before it reaches the floor.

Can it be dimmed?

A plug-in dimmer with a compatible E27 bulb is the practical route if you want to vary the level in the evening.

What does it weigh?

About 66 lbs. Nearly all of it is in the base plate, which is what holds a seven foot reach upright. Plan on two people to place it, and set it down where it is going to stay.

Is 1500 lumens enough for a piece this size?

It is one 15W bulb, so treat it as light over a seating group rather than light for the room. At this scale the object is doing as much work as the output. If you need a bright room, plan a second source.

Gold Inside the Dome Is Doing Work, It Is Not Only a Decorative Choice

Light that leaves a white lined shade comes out neutral. Light that bounces off gold comes out warmer than the bulb that made it, which is why the same 3000K bulb reads softer in this fitting than in a plain metal dome. From a chair under it you see the lit gold as a band rather than the bulb itself, so the source stays hidden while the shade becomes the bright object. It is the oldest trick in shade design and it still works. The visible cost is that the outside stays matt black or white, so unlit the piece gives away nothing about what happens underneath.

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items.
