Two Cables Instead of a Chain, Which Is Why the Coil Still Reads as Light

A chain is honest on a heavy iron fitting and wrong on this one. The coil is 80 cm of rope with nothing solid above it, and a chain would put a second heavy line in the air directly over the lightest part of the design. Two thin cables disappear at any distance, so from across the room you see a floating run of rope and two filaments. It also gives a cleaner adjustment: the cables take up at the canopy rather than needing links removed, so you can set the drop once the counter is in and change it later without tools. The trade is load, which is why the fitting stays at two lamps.

How many lamps does it take?

Two, E26 or E27, not included. They sit back to back at the middle of the coil, so the light spreads along the run of rope rather than pooling under one point.

Is 80 cm enough for an island?

For a small island or a table for four, yes. For a full length island, look at the rope wave in this range, which reaches 145 cm on five lamps. Measure the counter and aim to cover about two thirds of its length.

Does it hang from a chain?

From two thin cables off a single canopy, which is what keeps the fitting looking light. The cables adjust on site and can be extended on request.

Which lamps suit it?

Edison style filament lamps. The holders are exposed at the middle of the coil, so the lamp is part of what you look at. A large globe filament reads clearly against the rope; a small candle lamp gets lost.

Is there wood in it?

It is hemp rope coiled over an iron core, with no timber in it. The warm color in the photographs is the rope itself, left natural rather than stained.

How do I clean it?

Brush the rope dry with a soft brush and do not wet it. Wipe the black joint and the cables with a dry cloth. Let the lamps cool before touching anything near the holders.

The Rope Is the Only Shade Here, So What You See Lit Is the Coil Itself

There is no shade on this fitting and no diffuser. The two lamps sit at the middle and throw their light sideways along the coil, which means the rope catches it fiber by fiber and glows warm from inside the loops. That is the effect the fitting is for, and it is why it reads so differently at night than it does unlit in a bright kitchen. Two consequences worth knowing before you buy. The lamps are visible from a seated position, so a frosted lamp is kinder over a dining table. And because the light spreads sideways rather than down, this is an atmosphere fitting rather than a task light for chopping.

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?
