A Cement Cylinder, a Flat Wood Post, and a Shade That Leans Out to One Side

Nothing on this lamp is centered, and that is the whole idea. A cast cement cylinder sits flat on the surface, a flat wood post rises straight out of it and carries on past the socket to finish above the shade, and the shade itself is fixed to the side of that post so it cantilevers out over the table. Read from the side, the lamp is a vertical line with a horizontal plane crossing it low down, closer to a piece of small architecture than to a lamp with a base, a stem and a top. The materials are left as they are: gray unpolished cement, walnut colored wood with visible grain, a plain beige fabric plane. The cement is doing structural work rather than decorative, since the weight in the base is what allows the shade to hang out to one side without the whole thing tipping over.

What is the base made of?

Cast cement, gray and unpolished, with a flat wood post set into it. The weight of the cement is what lets the shade cantilever out to one side without the lamp tipping.

Which bulb does it take?

A G9, which is a small two pin capsule, not a screw base. Anything up to 40W works, LED or halogen, and none is supplied. An E26 or E27 bulb will not fit.

Is the bulb visible?

Yes. The shade is flat and sits above the socket, so the small G9 capsule shows underneath it. That is part of the look, and it is also why the light is brighter and harder than a fully enclosed shade would give.

Why is the shade off center?

Because it is fixed to the side of the post rather than balanced on top of it, so the post continues above the shade. That asymmetry is the design, and it means the light falls beside the lamp rather than around it.

Will the cement mark my furniture?

Cast cement is porous, so on an untreated or very pale surface put a felt pad or a coaster under it, the same as you would with a stone object.

How do I clean it?

A dry brush on the cement, since water darkens it while it dries. A lint roller on the fabric shade and a barely damp cloth along the grain of the wood post, dried at once.

A G9 Capsule Left in Plain Sight, and the Kind of Hard Light That Follows

The socket takes a G9 bulb, a small two pin capsule rather than a screw base, and it hangs in the open under the flat shade instead of being hidden inside it. Two consequences follow. The light is harder and brighter than an enclosed shade gives, falling in a tight circle on the surface just beside the lamp, which is what makes this a working light next to a chair or on a cabinet rather than a soft ambient one. And the bulb is part of what you see, so a clear capsule reads as intended and a frosted one softens the effect if the glare bothers you. One practical warning: a G9 is not an E26 or E27, so a standard screw bulb from the drawer will not fit, and none is supplied with the lamp. Anything up to 40W is fine, LED or halogen.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.
