A shade painted on the outside is an object that happens to be colored. Glass tinted through its body is a filter, and everything that leaves it carries the tint with it, onto the table, the wall behind and the faces of whoever sits underneath. That is why a green shade changes the feel of a room at night far more than a green lampshade of the same size ever would.

Is the color in the glass or painted on?

The glass is tinted through its thickness, which is why the light passes through it and carries the color. Paint on the outside would leave the output white and the shade would only look colored while the room lights were on.

Which color suits a kitchen?

Beige is the quiet one and sits well against wood and white cabinets. Green reads strongest against a pale wall, orange warms a north facing room, and pink is the softest of the four once it is lit.

What bulb does it take?

An E26 or E27 screw bulb, not supplied. A frosted LED keeps the color even across the shade, while a clear filament lamp shows through the ribs as bright lines, which is a different look rather than a worse one.

Do the ribs change the light?

They break the surface into vertical bands, so the shade is brighter along some lines than others and throws a faint striped pattern on a close wall. On a plain shade the same lamp would read flat.

How many over a counter?

Two or three spaced about 28 inches apart suit a standard island, hung around 32 inches above the worktop. Mixing two colors in a row works when the two sit near each other, such as beige with pink.

Does colored glass cut the brightness?

Some output is absorbed by the tint, more in the green and orange than in the beige. Choosing a lamp one step brighter than you would otherwise fit brings the level back where you want it.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
