The Deep Flutes Turn a Single Small Bulb Into a Row of Fine Vertical Lines of Light

Bone china is thin, and the flutes make it thinner still at the ridges. Lit from inside, the walls between the flutes glow and the ridges read as bright lines while the hollows stay soft. That is a different effect from a plain white shade, which lights up as one flat panel. At 5.3 inches across, the shade is small enough to hang beside a bed or a mirror without crowding it, and the detail only appears once the light is on, so by day it stays a quiet white object on the wall. It is a lot of texture for a fitting that takes one 15 watt bulb.

How big is the shade?

5.3 inches across, and the fitting stands 11.8 inches tall. That is small by sconce standards, which is why it works either side of a bed or a mirror where a larger shade would crowd the frame.

Which bulb does it take?

One E14 bulb, 15 watts maximum, not included. A warm white LED at 2700K suits the bone china and keeps the flutes soft. Going above the 15 watt limit risks the glaze and does not make the shade brighter.

Can I dim this sconce?

Yes, with a dimmable E14 bulb on a compatible wall dimmer. Neither the bulb nor the dimmer is included. Dimmed, the flutes read as separate lines of light, which is the effect worth buying it for.

Is every shade identical?

The bone china is shaped and glazed by hand, so tone, glaze thickness and the fine texture vary slightly from one piece to the next. A pair will read as a pair, not as two stamped copies.

Does it need an electrician?

Yes. It is hardwired to a wall junction box, with the on and off button on the fitting itself for everyday use.

Can it go in a bathroom?

It is rated IP20, with no protection against water. Bone china and a glaze handle dry air well, but a socket at this rating does not belong near a shower or above a basin that gets splashed.

A Button on the Back Plate Means You Never Reach Across the Bed for a Switch

A bedside light wired only to the room switch by the door is a light you get out of bed to turn off. This one carries its own on and off button on the back plate, within reach of a pillow, so it works as a reading light whether or not the room has a switch on the right side. The plate comes in sand nickel or copper, both matte rather than shiny, so neither one throws a reflection at eye level when you are lying down. Mounted as a pair either side of a bed, that button is what turns two wall fittings into two independent reading lights.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
