Pressed Flutes and Not Cut Crystal, Which Is Why the Shape Reads So Soft

The grooves in these shades are pressed into the glass while it is hot, not cut into it afterward. That matters to how the fitting looks. Cut crystal gives hard facets and sharp sparkle; pressed flutes give rounded ridges and a soft gather of light along each one, which is why the bells read as flowers rather than as jewels. It also means the surface has no sharp edges to catch dust or a cloth, so cleaning is a wipe along the grooves rather than a careful job. If you want glitter, this is the wrong fitting. If you want the shape of traditional glass without the formality, it is the right one.

What does fluted mean here?

Deep grooves pressed into the glass, running down the sides of each bell and finishing in a scalloped rim. It is a pressed glass technique rather than cut crystal, and it is what gives the shade its flower shape.

Is the column real wood?

Yes. It is built from glass, metal and wood, and the turned column is the wood part in a walnut tone. The arms, collars and canopy are metal in a gold finish.

Which lamps should I use?

E26 or E27, one per arm, not included. The glass is frosted as well as fluted, so it hides the lamp. A warm white LED around 2700K keeps the glass ivory; a cooler lamp turns it faintly blue.

Six lights or eight?

80 cm against 90 cm, so the step up is modest. Six suits a living room or bedroom of normal size. Eight is for a larger room or a table of eight, and it wants about 30 cm of clear wall on each side.

Does it come in a three light?

This one starts at six. If you need something smaller in the same family, the frosted tulip fitting in this range comes in a three light at 66 cm.

How do I clean the flutes?

Let the lamps cool, lift each bell from its collar and wipe with a barely damp cloth, working along the grooves rather than across them. Dry before refitting so no water reaches the socket.

The eight light is 90 cm across and 30 cm deep. Three times as wide as it is tall is an unusual proportion for a chandelier with glass shades, and it is the reason this one works in a room with an ordinary ceiling. The fitting reads as a wide ring near the plaster rather than a mass hanging into the room, so it fills the space above a sofa or a table without getting into anybody's sight line. Set the drop with the furniture in place. Too high and a shallow fitting looks stuck to the ceiling; too low and it stops feeling like a ring and starts feeling like an obstacle.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?
