What makes this shade read as a parasol rather than as a drum is the construction. Panels of printed fabric are seamed over thin ribs, so the surface curves outward as it descends and then turns down again at the bottom, and the hem is cut into scallops that follow the ribs, which breaks the outline instead of closing it in a circle. Lit from inside, the ribs show as fine radial lines and the scalloped edge throws a soft repeating shadow on the wall behind, so the lamp draws with its own outline. The print itself is a fine gray pattern of branches and blossom on white: it is the first thing you see in daylight and the first thing to recede once the lamp is on. Two shapes carry the same treatment, a wide flat parasol and a taller curved bell.

What is the difference between the two models?

The shade. One is a wide flat parasol with a deeply scalloped hem, the other a taller curved bell with a softer scallop. The base, the stem, the finial and the stated dimensions are the same on both.

Is the pattern printed or woven?

Printed, in gray on white. It is the clearest thing on the lamp in daylight and recedes once the bulb is on, when the seams between the panels become the strongest lines instead.

How wide is the shade on a nightstand?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items.
