A Shade Cut Into Five Petals, Printed in Almost the Same Tone as the Fabric

The flower shape is built, not suggested. Five rounded lobes are seamed over thin ribs and curve outward and down, so the hem breaks into scallops instead of finishing in a circle and the silhouette reads as a bloom from any angle. On that white fabric sits a fine botanical print in a tone very close to the ground color, which is a deliberate choice: in daylight the pattern is the first thing you see, and once the lamp is lit it recedes and the seams between the petals take over as the strongest vertical lines. The result is a shade that changes character between day and evening rather than shouting in both. The fabric itself is opaque, so most of the output leaves through the open bottom and along the seams, which keeps the light soft and low.

Questions about this product

Everything you need to know about this product.

Is the floral pattern printed or woven?

Printed, in a tone close to the fabric itself. It reads clearly in daylight and fades back once the lamp is lit, when the seams between the petals become the strongest lines on the shade instead.

How wide is it on a nightstand?

25 cm across at the widest point of the shade, which is narrow for a lamp 55 cm tall. That ratio is what makes it fit a shallow nightstand or a console where a drum shade of the same height would overhang.

What is the difference between the two finishes?

Only the color of the stem, spheres and foot. Walnut keeps the whole lamp soft and warm; black turns the stem into a graphic outline and lets the printed shade carry the decoration on its own.

Which bulb does it take?

A standard E26 or E27, LED or Edison, not supplied. A frosted bulb is the safer choice, since a clear filament shows through the gaps between the petals when you are seated beside it.

How much light does it give?

Enough for a bedside or a hallway, not enough for close work. The petals overlap and the fabric is opaque, so most of the output leaves through the open bottom and the seams rather than through the shade.

How do I clean the petal shade?

Use a lint roller or a soft brush and follow each petal from the seam outward, since the ribs trap dust. Keep water off the print, and wipe the spheres with a barely damp cloth, dried at once.

A Column of Graduated Spheres, and a Narrow Footprint for a Lamp This Tall

Below the shade the stem is a stack of wood spheres, largest at the bottom and tapering upward, standing on a flat round foot, with a small ball finial closing the top of the shade so the rhythm repeats at both ends. Stacking rather than turning a single post is what gives the lamp its quiet vertical beat, and the graduated sizes are what keep a 55 cm lamp from looking top heavy on a narrow foot. That proportion has a practical payoff: the shade is only 25 cm across, so the lamp stands tall without claiming the surface, which is the reason it works on a crowded nightstand or a shallow console where a drum shade of the same height would hang over the edge. Two finishes share the profile. Walnut keeps the stem warm and soft against the printed shade; black turns it into a graphic outline and lets the print do the decorating alone.
