An E27 Socket on the Wired Build Puts the Light Color Back in Your Hands

The wired version here keeps a standard E27 socket instead. You fit the bulb you want: a warm filament if the lantern is meant to look traditional behind ribbed glass, a frosted LED if the position is at eye level and you would rather not see the source, a lower output if the fitting sits close to a window. It also means one failed bulb is a two minute job rather than a new fitting. The solar build trades that away for an integrated LED, which is the fair price of needing no cable at all.

Which bulb does the wired build take?

A standard E27, LED or filament, not included. That is the point of this build: you pick the color temperature and the output rather than living with a fixed one. Keep it modest, since the glass is clear and ribbed.

Why does the glass ship separately?

Because glass in a metal frame is easy to break in transit. The lantern is packed on its own and is fitted to the body on site. It is a short job with the fixings supplied, but plan for it rather than being surprised.

Does the solar build take a bulb as well?

The solar build has an integrated LED at warm light and no lamp holder, so nothing is chosen or replaced. If you want to control the light color yourself, the wired build with an E27 is the one to take.

Is galvanized steel better than painted metal here?

It holds up differently. The zinc layer is bonded to the steel rather than laid on top, so a scratch on a rail or a pier does not start rust under the finish the way a chip in paint can. It is the reason to choose it.

How does the ribbed glass change the light?

It breaks the output into vertical lines instead of a flat wash. From a few feet away you read the ribs rather than the bulb, which softens a clear lantern without hiding it. A frosted bulb takes it further if you want less sparkle.

Can it go on a deck rail in full weather?

Yes. It is rated IP65, dust tight and protected against water jets, and a deck rail is exactly the exposed position it is built for. Do not immerse it, and keep the lantern clear of standing water on a flat rail top.

Every size in this range is 7.1 inches tall. Only the footprint changes, from 7.9 inches square up to 19.7. That matters on a boundary wall with piers of different widths, which is the normal condition on a real property rather than a showroom: the gate piers are wide, the intermediate piers are narrow, and a range with one height lets you cap them all and still read a level line of light along the top of the wall. Choose each cap by the pier it sits on, not by the one next to it, and the run will look deliberate instead of stepped.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
