One Solid Cylinder of Wood, Fluted, on a Joint That Lets You Aim the Beam

There is no shade on this fitting and no arm either. The body is a single cylinder of solid wood, cut with narrow flutes down its length, and it sits directly on a brushed nickel ball joint against a small round plate. That is the entire piece. The flutes matter more than they sound: on something only 8 cm across, a smooth curve would read as a plain tube, while the ridges catch light along their edges and let the grain step across them, so there is something to look at up close. The joint matters even more, because a fitting this small is only useful if the beam goes where you need it. Drop it onto a page, push it into a corner, or turn it up the wall for a wash.

Questions about this product

Everything you need to know about this product.

How small is it?

Dia 8 x H 16 cm, roughly the size of a coffee cup. On a wall it takes about the space a switch plate takes, which is why it suits a bedside, a hallway or the strip beside a door where a shaded fitting would be in the way.

Can I aim it?

Yes. The head sits on a brushed nickel ball joint, so it angles down onto a page, out into a corner or up the wall as a wash. Set it once at installation or change it as the use of the corner changes.

What does fluted mean here?

The cylinder is cut with narrow grooves running along its length, so instead of one smooth curve you get a row of ridges. The ridges catch the light at their edges and the grain steps across them, which is what gives a piece this small some texture to look at.

Which lamp does it take?

A GU10 lamp, not included. That is the twist and lock spot base, widely sold as an LED. A warm 2700K to 3000K version suits the wood; pick a wider beam angle if you want a soft pool rather than a tight circle.

Which finish for a dark wall?

The oak tone, because it separates from the wall and the flutes stay legible. The walnut warms into a dark wall and reads quieter. The black almost disappears and leaves only the pool of light, which is the point if you want the effect and not the object.

How do I clean it?

Let the lamp cool. Dust the fluted head with a soft dry brush, since the grooves hold dust, and wipe it along the grain with a barely damp cloth. Wipe the nickel plate dry.

Three Finishes on the Same Nickel Hardware, For Three Very Different Walls

The head is offered in a pale oak tone, a walnut and a black, and the brushed nickel plate and joint stay the same across all three. That combination is deliberate and it gives you a genuine choice rather than a color swatch. On a dark or a colored wall the oak separates cleanly and the flutes stay readable from a step away. On pale plaster the walnut is the warmer, quieter option and the nickel reads as a bright line between the wood and the wall. The black head does the opposite of both: it recedes almost completely, so what you notice is the pool of light and the small circle of metal holding it. Same size, same joint, same GU10 lamp behind it.
