The Cracks Sit Inside the Glass, Not on It, Which Is Why the Surface Is Still Smooth
Crackle glass is made by shocking hot glass in water and then sealing the fractures under a second layer, so the web of cracks is trapped in the middle of the wall and the outside stays smooth to the hand. Lit from within, every one of those fractures catches the light and the shade reads as a thousand small bright lines rather than one even glow. A fluted brass cap closes the top. Three sizes and two tints, from a 5.9 inch squat shade to a 12.6 inch tall cylinder.
