The Frame Is Carved, Not Bent, Which Is Why the Scrolls Read as Timber
The body of this chandelier is a cage of carved wooden scrolls rising from a turned spindle, with five arms curving out below to carry candle lamps. That construction is the whole difference. Metal scrollwork is bent, so it reads thin and even; carved timber has thickness and a cut face, so the scrolls hold light and shadow along their length and the frame has weight even when it is painted pale. It measures 23.6 inches across and 27.6 inches tall, and comes in an old white or an old gray finish worked back over the grain.
