Interior Lamp Height, Which Is What Makes a Terrace Read Like a Real Room

Outdoor lighting is nearly all low. Bollards at knee height, lanterns on tables, spike lights in the border: the result is light coming up from below, which is dramatic and does very little for people sitting down. Is a bulb included?

It takes an E26 or E27 lamp and the choice is yours, which is the advantage of a socket over an integrated LED. Choose one rated for a damp location and keep the output warm for a terrace.

Why so tall for outdoors?

Because it lights like a room. At 59 inches the shade clears the head of anyone sitting down, so the output falls onto the table and the cushions rather than raking across them from below.

What do the slats do?

They let light out sideways between the blades as well as down through the open shade, so the cylinder itself glows and the pattern lands faintly on a wall behind it.

Is the stem stable?

The mass is in the base and the stem is deliberately thin. On a hard terrace it stands well; on soft ground or an exposed deck, put it against a planter or a wall rather than out in the open.

How is it powered?

Hardwired on AC 110-240V with a push button switch on the body, so the supply is brought to the position rather than plugged in. That is a decision to make before the terrace surface goes down.

Can it live outside all season?

It is rated IP65 against dust and water jets from any direction. Do not immerse it. Bring a five foot lamp in ahead of a winter storm rather than leaving it standing unattended.

Slats Rather Than a Closed Shade, So the Cylinder Itself Is Part of the Light

A closed shade is a machine for aiming light: everything goes up or down and the shade stays dark. That is right for a reading lamp and wrong for a terrace, where the fixture is part of the view. The slats here leave a gap between every blade, so the output escapes sideways as well as through the ends and the cylinder glows as an object at head height. On a wall a couple of feet behind it, the same gaps lay a faint striped pattern that moves as you walk past. None of that costs anything in useful light on the table, because the open ends are still doing that job.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
