The Saucer Is Almost Flat, So It Spreads the Light Instead of Aiming It

Shade depth decides what a wall light actually does, and most fittings in this bracket use a deep cone because it is easier to make and easier to photograph. A deep shade gives you a narrow pool directly beneath it and a dark wall either side. This saucer goes the other way: 30 cm across and only a few centimeters deep, more a plate than a bowl, with the small glass globe sitting under its middle. What comes out spreads sideways along the wall as much as it falls, so a surface below the fitting is lit end to end rather than in one bright circle. It is the difference between a fitting that spotlights a console and one that makes the whole corner usable after dark.

Where does the light go?

Sideways and down. The saucer is wide and shallow rather than deep, so it spreads what the globe gives across the wall and onto the surface below instead of dropping a tight circle. It is ambient light with a soft edge, not a reading beam.

How is it switched?

A pull chain hangs from the fitting, and it also answers a common wall switch on the circuit if the room already has one. The chain is what makes it usable in a corner where no wall plate was ever wired.

Is the saucer bamboo or wood?

That is one thing we are checking. The detail table lists metal, wood and bamboo without saying which part is which, and the saucer reads as a pale light wood in every photograph.

Which lamp does it take?

A G9 lamp, not included. That is a small two pin capsule, not a screw base, so an E26 or E27 bulb will not fit. A warm 2700K to 3000K capsule keeps the pale wood warm rather than green.

How much wall does it need?

The saucer is 30 cm across, so give it an open run rather than a narrow strip. Above a console, a bench or a side table it reads as generous. Squeezed between a door frame and a corner it will look crowded.

How do I clean it?

Let the lamp cool. Dust the pale saucer with a soft dry cloth, working outward from the center, and wipe the glass globe with a barely damp cloth. Wipe the walnut disc along the grain and buff the black arm dry.

This fitting is four materials and not one of them shines. A walnut disc flat against the wall, dark and matte. A black metal arm with no plating and no visible fixing. A saucer of pale wood, left light enough to read as raw. And a small white glass globe under it, frosted rather than clear. There is no brass, no chrome and no gloss anywhere on the piece, which is why it sits with jute, linen and cane instead of competing with them. That restraint is also what makes the shape legible: with nothing catching the light, the eye reads the outline, a disc, a bent line and a wide flat circle, and stops there.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

Yes. If you change your mind within 24 hours of placing your order, before it has been processed, we will refund you right away. After an order has shipped, please follow the standard return process described above.
