The same raft of globes lit and viewed at an angle, brass canopy above

Packed Globes Read as a Single Object, Spaced Globes Read as a Pattern

This is the difference between this fitting and the many bubble chandeliers that look like it at a glance. Space the spheres and the eye counts them, lands on the gaps and reads a grid, which makes the piece feel designed on a computer. Push them together until they touch and the count stops mattering. What you see is a single mass with a soft lower edge that changes shape as you move around it, and the individual globes only come back when you look for them. It is the reason this works over a table, where a grid hanging at eye level would be busy in a way a cloud is not.

Questions about this product

Everything you need to know about this product.

How many bulbs does it take?

Twenty seven G9 bulbs, one per globe, all supplied with the fitting. G9 is a common base so replacements are easy, but on a piece this dense you will want to change more than one at a time when you get up there.

Is 19 000 lumens a lot?

It is a working level for a long dining table or an open living room, and it is high enough that you will want a second lower source for the evening. The model is not dimmable as built, though a dimmable version can be made.

Why are the globes touching?

Because spacing them would give you a grid and a grid reads as a pattern. Packed close, the individual spheres stop being countable and the piece reads as one soft mass with an uneven lower edge, which is the whole intent.

Will the veining differ between globes?

Yes, and across 27 globes that is visible. Each one is cut from natural alabaster, so some are almost plain and others are strongly marked. Lit, that variation is what keeps the mass from looking manufactured.

Can it go on a sloped ceiling?

On request. The canopy is a straight bar 39.1 inches long, so a pitch needs a build change rather than an adapter.

How heavy is it?

Twenty seven stone globes on one canopy bar is not a light fitting, and the ceiling fixing has to be sized for it. Write to us and we will send you the weight and the required fixing in writing.

Two Layers of Globes Is What Gives the Underside Its Uneven Lower Edge

If every globe hung at the same height the bottom of this fitting would be a flat plane, and a flat plane of spheres is a ceiling tile with texture. Hanging them at two levels means the lower row sits between and below the upper row, so the underside dips and rises and no two views of it are the same. It also does something for the light. The upper globes are partly hidden behind the lower ones, so the brightness varies across the mass instead of being even, which is what stops nineteen thousand lumens from reading as a flat glare when you are sitting under it.
