A Pressed Pleated Coolie Shade Above a Chrome Stem Broken by Turned Walnut

The shade is pressed rather than stretched. Fine vertical folds run from the top of the coolie down to its edge, so the fabric has depth even unlit, and when the lamp is on the light leaves it in narrow bands with a highlight along every crease. Under it the stem is a slim polished chrome tube, interrupted about a third of the way up by a turned section of walnut. That piece of wood is doing real work: an all metal lamp under a cream shade reads cold, and the walnut ties the base to the fabric above it. At the bottom the foot is a low oval of chrome, wide enough to hold a 36 cm shade steady and low enough to stay out of the way. Is the whole lamp chrome?

Almost. The foot, the stem and the fitting inside the shade are polished chrome; one turned section of walnut is set into the stem, about a third of the way up. That piece of wood is deliberate, since an all metal lamp under a cream shade reads cold, and it ties the base to the fabric above it.

What is a pleated shade?

Fabric pressed into fine vertical folds rather than stretched flat over a frame. The folds break the light into narrow bands as it leaves the shade and catch a highlight along every crease, so the surface has depth even when the lamp is off. It is a coolie shape here, wider at the bottom than the top.

How much room does it need?

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?
