Walnut heron candle warmer lamp seen from an angle, unlit

A Heron Carved From Walnut, Holding a Brass Fitting in the Curve of Its Neck

The structure is a sculpture doing a job. A heron is carved from walnut with its neck arched forward and its beak turned down, standing on a round wood base, and the curve of that neck is what carries the polished brass fitting out over the surface, so the lamp needs no arm, no post and no bracket. Under the fitting hangs a small forest green cone, deep enough to keep the bulb hidden and to send its heat and light straight down onto whatever is placed below. Two finishes appear in the photographs, a warm walnut and a flat black, and the black version turns the bird into a graphic silhouette against a pale wall.

Questions about this product

Everything you need to know about this product.

How does a candle warmer work?

The bulb above the candle heats the top layer of wax until it melts and releases its fragrance. Nothing burns, so there is no flame, no soot and no wick, and the candle is not consumed the way it is when lit.

Can I use an LED bulb?

For warming you need a halogen. An LED GU10 gives light but almost no heat, so the wax stays solid and nothing is released. The lamp needs a GU10 halogen, typically 35 to 50W, and it is sold separately.

Is a candle included?

Use any standard soy or paraffin candle or wax melt in a suitable vessel that fits under the shade. The lamp warms whatever you place beneath it.

Is it a lamp as well?

Yes, in the sense that it gives a warm downward pool of light over the candle and the surface. It is not built to light a room, and the green cone keeps the output tight and directed.

Which finishes are available?

Walnut and black. Both are photographed on this page, so what you see is what arrives, and the carving reads differently in each: warm and grained in walnut, graphic in black.

How do I clean it?

Let the bulb and the shade cool completely first. Wipe the carved walnut along the grain with a barely damp cloth, use a dry cloth on the brass fitting, and clean any spilled wax off the base while it is still soft.

Fragrance Without a Flame, and the One Bulb This Lamp Absolutely Requires

A candle warmer replaces the flame with heat from above. Put a candle or a wax melt under the shade, switch the lamp on, and the bulb warms the top layer of wax until it releases its fragrance continuously, with no flame, no soot, no wick and no wax burned away, which also means the candle lasts far longer than it would lit. There is one hard requirement and it is worth stating twice: the lamp needs a GU10 halogen bulb, typically 35 to 50W, purchased separately. An LED GU10 will fit the socket and light up, but it produces almost no heat, so the wax will not melt and the warming function will simply not work. The candle itself is not included either; any standard soy or paraffin candle in a suitable vessel will do. Power is an ordinary plug on a twisted copper fabric cord with an inline switch.
