Stem mounted model of the brass and milk glass ceiling light at an angle

The same glass drum offered at two heights, which turns one fixture into two decisions

Most ranges make you choose between a flush mount and a semi flush mount from different families, with different glass and different proportions. Here it is one drum of milk glass in a cast brass frame, offered either tight against the plaster or dropped 43 cm on four brass stems. Under a standard ceiling Model A keeps the headroom and still shows the pierced band and the scalloped rim. Under a high ceiling Model B fills the empty space between the plaster and the eye, and the stems become part of the design rather than a necessary evil. The glass, the sockets and the finish do not change, so a house can carry both without the rooms arguing with each other.

Questions about this product

Everything you need to know about this product.

What is the difference between Model A and Model B?

The drop. Model A mounts close to the ceiling and stands 6.7 in or 7.1 in high depending on width. Model B hangs the same glass drum from four brass stems, which brings the total height to 16.9 in or 43 cm. The glass, the frame and the sockets are the same in both, so the choice is ceiling height and presence.

Which sizes are available?

Model A comes at 13.8 in with three bulbs, 17.7 in with four and 23.6 in with six. Model B comes at 17.7 in with four bulbs and 23.6 in with six. In centimeters that is 35, 45 and 60 across, with Model A at 17 or 18 cm high and Model B at 43 cm.

What is milk glass?

Opaque white glass rather than clear or lightly frosted. It hides the bulb completely and gives an even, soft output, which is why it was the standard choice for ceiling fixtures of this period. Here it is cut into flat panels and set between brass uprights rather than blown as a single dome.

What bulbs does it take?

E26 or E27 screw bulbs, the standard medium bases, in LED or Edison filament form. The count depends on the size, from three in the smallest to six in the largest. No bulbs are supplied with the fixture, so a set is bought alongside it, and the choice of warmth and output stays open.

Is it safe above a shower?

No, it is not. The maker rates the fixture IP20, damp rated and not waterproof, for indoor use only. A bathroom or a shower room is outside that rating. Keep it to a living room, a bedroom, a dining room or a hallway where no moisture reaches the ceiling.

How is it installed?

Hardwired to a ceiling junction box, with a push switch on the wall that is not supplied. Model B adds four stems between the canopy and the drum, which are assembled before the fixture is lifted into place. A licensed electrician should make the connection with the power off at the breaker.

Flat panels of milk glass between brass uprights, not a single blown dome

A blown dome is one surface and it lights as one surface. This drum is assembled instead: flat panels of opaque milk glass, each set between vertical brass uprights, with a pierced band above and a scalloped rim below. The result is a lit band broken into segments, with a dark line of brass between each one, which is a far more structured effect than a smooth dome gives. Milk glass does the hiding work, so none of the three to six screw bulbs inside is visible from the floor whatever shape you fit. The brass carries the period detail, and because the frame is cast rather than pressed, the relief on the band and the finial still reads from several meters below.
